We ship tissue culture plantlets directly from our labs, either as sterile plantlets (in-vitro) or as non sterile plantlets (ex-vitro). In-vitro plants are exempt from the usual CITES regulations and therefore need less documentation but take up more shipping volume than ex-vitro plantlets.

Usually plantlets are produced to one of 3 size grades:

Grade ‘A’ – larger plantlets suitable for growing on quickly to produce large plants for the pot-plant or hanging basket market.

Grade ‘B’ – specially selected for size suitable to produce plants suitable for installation in our standard Bio-Dome Growing System.

Grade ‘C’ – smaller plantlets selected for size suitable to produce plants suitable for installation in our new Mini Bio-Dome Growing System.

The photo below shows a typical Grade ‘A’ size plantlet:

Plugs are inserted securely into transport trays each holding 48 plugs:

Trays are then stacked 4 high and inserted into styrofoam boxes:

If preferred, we can pack trays of 48 plugs into cardboard cartons and not styrofoam boxes. This reduces overall volume by about 30% and reduced shipping charges. But if we do this, shipment is at the buyers risk.

We manufacture a special tool to assist in removing the plants from the transport trays. The process is shown below:

Plant extraction base and the extraction plunger.

Placing the plant tray on the extraction tool.

Positioning the extraction plunger and pressing down the plunger.

After pressing down the plunger, all the plants on the tray have been loosen from the tray and lifted.

Gently remove the plants holding by the plug base. Never hold the plants by the leaves

Except for small sample shipments sent by Express Mail (see under ‘Prices & Ordering Tab’) plants are shipped by air freight in well insulated styrofoam boxes. We have a comprehensive warranty for save arrival and conformity to the standards and sizes advertised. Please click on the next tab for ‘Warranty’ to see full details.

Shipping Responsibilities of Exporter

We supply all documentation required for shipment, including:

  • Phytosanitary certificate
  • CITES export permits
  • Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Certificate of Origin (if required).

Scans of CITES export permits, Invoice and packing list can be sent well in advance of shipment if required. Scans of Phytosanitary Certificate and Airwaybill (MAWB) can only be sent at the time of shipment.

Clearing Responsibilities of Importer

It is the importer’s responsibility to:

1. Check for the need for, and obtain as necessary, any required import permits. This may include CITES permits or other documents depending upon the country. We can advise what is necessary to the best of our knowledge but the final responsibility lies with the importer. Any delay in clearance of the shipment due to failure on the importers behalf to obtain necessary import documentation renders the warranty void.
2. The importer must check if any additional declaration is required on the Phytosanitary Certificate and inform us accordingly. Any delay in clearance of the shipment due to failure to inform us of any required additional phytosanitary declaration renders the warranty void.
3. The importer must at their own cost arrange clearance from the airport in their own country and onward delivery to the final destination. This may include but not be limited to appointment of clearing agent, payment of taxes and other duties due and onward shipment to the importers premises.

We guarantee that the plants will arrive in good condition and conform to the specifications given at the time of ordering. If the buyer is not satisfied with either the condition of the plants or their specifications, we require photographic evidence with 24 hours of receipt. We will then either refund, issue a credit note or replace the plants at our discretion.

We are open for discussion on distributorship in various territories. Sole distributorship may also be discussed and is likely to require commitments on:

  • Annual turnover
  • Ownership of equity in Borneo Exotics (see page for ‘Investor Relations)

Investor relations - We are currently not actively seeking investment, as we are updating our Information Memorandum and Executive Summary. But please do register for website updates to be informed when these will be ready. If you prefer you may contact us and we will inform you when further information is available.
